5 hydrating serums suitable for breakout / acne prone skin

I don’t see or read much about serums for people who have acne or breakout prone skin, and it seems unfair. After all, this is just another form of sensitivity, in my opinion. And serums are probably more suitable due to their light consistency.

Here are 5 I have found that have great write-ups / reviews, and are aimed at breakout prone skin, providing hydration without leaving any residue or blocking pores. These compliment any treatment products already being used.

The key ingredient is rosa roxburghii which is rich in vitamins A, C and E as well as essential fatty acids. The serum helps to improve discolouration, post blemish marks, UV damage, age spots, and evens out skin tone.

30ml costs £49 and can be bought online or in any of their stores.

Skinceuticals hydrating B5 gel

Hydrating B5 gel from skinceuticals

Skinceuticals is a brand not easily found here, being an American one, and is recommended by dermatologists and plastic surgeons to improve the condition of skin. A very science focussed brand. This particular serum is an RSVP beauty awards winner, 2014.

It contains vitamin B5 which aids in repairing skin, as well hyaluronic acid, which binds moisture to skin, further enhancing hydration. It’s all done without the use of oils.

30ml is £59 and can be bought here.

Kiehl's ultra facial oil-free gel cream

Ultra facial oil-free gel cream from Kiehl’s

This isn’t technically a serum, but it is worth considering because it is oil-free and has a gel-like consistency…very close to that of a serum! It is the oil-free version of Kiehl’s best selling cream. I love it when a brand considers different skin types and caters for them with their best sellers. It hydrates whilst being non-greasy.

50ml is £24 and can be bought online or from any of their stores.

Manuka doctor apiclear skin treatment serum

Manuka doctor ApiClear skin treatment serum

Containing a blend of bee venom, manuka honey and royal jelly, this serum targets spots and acne, whilst reducing the appearance of fine lines and scars. It moisturises, protects, hydrates and balances skin.

30ml is £19.99 and can be bought from Manuka Doctor, as well as Holland & Barrett and Superdrug.

Mario badescu herbal hydrating serum

Another American brand not easily found here. I have used their spot treatment before and found it to be quite effective. This serum can be used by all skin types, but is particularly useful for anyone looking for a lightweight hydrator for oily skin. It nourishes skin with ginkgo extract, ceramides and ginseng extracts.

29ml is £30 and can be bought online.
