Soooo, I’ve gone a bit OTT with my beauty addiction and spent more than I should have this month on goodies for myself. You see, I spend my own money on products so that I can write about them as impartially as possible – it’s not just an addiction! Promise 🙂
Anyway, I have run out of one of my weekly essentials – Steep Clean face mask from Bliss – and have ended up turning to Pinterest (another addiction) to see if anyone on there has recipes for a home made one. I came across this one to brighten and tighten. Looks easy enough to me!
This recipe, courtesy of The Kitchen McCabe, is made with just 3 ingredients I am fortunate always to have at home:
- an egg white (which is great for tightening skin and pores)
- 1/2 tablespoon honey (to soothe, calm and moisturise skin)
- 1/2 tablespoon lemon juice (to brighten skin and keep germs at bay)
Instructions: whisk all the ingredients together until it is really frothy. I find the more the mixture is whisked the thicker it gets, making it so much easier to get on to skin without dripping and creating a sticky mess. Leave on for 30 minutes. Rinse off with warm water and a muslin cloth, splash face with cold water before applying toner and your normal products.
I must admit my skin felt squeaky clean and fresh afterwards, but I am yet to discover whether I will get the same cumulative results as with my shop bought one. Come back in a month’s time and I will let you know how I’ve gotten on. At the very least it’s comforting to know exactly what has gone into it in the first place AND I’ve saved some pennies at the same time. Well, for a month at least 😉
