I’m on a 10-day detox with the Organic Pharmacy – better sleep, better skin, better mood are on the menu

Organic pharmacy haul

Organic pharmacy haul – extras in my goodie bag of 2 x face masks, a serum and nail polish

I went to a natural beauty event* at the Organic Pharmacy, whose philosophy is based on homeopathy, herbal medicine, nutrients and a holistic approach to health and wellbeing – what you put inside you is as important as what you apply on the outside, i.e. free from toxins and nasties that create sensitivities in and on our bodies. I can relate to that, and so can others, going by the number of awards they have won over the years.

They were offering bespoke stress, vitamin and mineral tests, which is a diluted version of their health assessment. It was an illuminating experience, where I learnt that some of the nutritious goodness I was putting inside my body didn’t seem to be getting absorbed, with a number of reasons being cited, including stress. We hear all the time that too much stress is not good for you, but I never realised that it can hamper your body’s ability to operate at an optimum level, which can, in turn effect sleep, digestion, skin, hair…all of which can leave you feeling pretty crap. The culprit being the stress hormone cortisol.

The test

Using straps around ankles, wrists and across forehead, the machine (a bio-energetic device) tested vitamin and mineral levels in my blood, as well as looking for stress indicators. I didn’t (and still don’t) fully understand how, without a blood sample being taken, so I received the results with a bit of cynicism. I must admit some of what was being told to me confirmed some suspicions I already had – you take what you need from these situations. Lactose intolerance was also confirmed. I left with a prescription and some advice on changes to make to improve my general health and well being.

And so begins a 10-day detox using their Detox colon cleanse & gut repair capsules and Liver & Kidney drops, which are the 2 basic steps in their detox programme, accompanied by a detailed guide (the Ultimate Detox) which provides a meal plan for each day as well as general hints and tips. No refined carbs, no sugar, limited caffeine, etc, but nothing as drastic as one would expect. You can go for the full Detox Kit if you want to, but I wasn’t feeling that flush at the time.

I am looking forward to sleeping better, having healthier digestion, clearer skin and more energy. I’ll let you know how I get on. Next step – detoxing stress from my life…

*I paid for my own ticket to the event (organised by Get the Gloss), as well as the prescribed detox capsules and tinctures.
