I saw this on Instagram and had to buy it. That’s the way things go for me. I love seeing makeup on others to help me decide (and this lady had dark lips like mine). With 22 shades to choose from (US) and 13 shades (UK), Nyx cosmetics’ soft matte lip cream is a new favourite of mine (how fickle I am, sorry NARS and MAC you need to move over for now). The shade you see here is Antwerp.
The colour doesn’t look anything like it does in the tube, which adds to the fun (fickle, fickle me), and is instead a semi-fluorescent pink that is matte and not so neon that you scare away small dogs and children. It is described as ‘mid-tone yellow-toned pink’, which makes me think that those with olive skin with a yellow undertone (like me) would suit it better. I can’t wait to try out / get swatches of all 22 of them (yes, it looks like the US site has a better range, descriptions and stock! It is a US brand after all). I haven’t seen it stocked anywhere over here, and the UK site has a lot out of stock, so I ended up buying mine from amazon. Needs must 🙂
It does exactly what it says on the tin – it glides on much like a lip gloss does, but sets to a matte and smooth finish, much like a lipstick but without the heavy feeling. Re-application is minimal and I didn’t notice much bleeding / feathering around the lips. My lips get a bit dry after a few hours, so I dab a bit of lip balm (which is never far from reach) in the centre of each lip, and apply the Nyx lip cream over it which does the trick.
At £7 a tube this is probably one of the best value lip products that I have ever bought, and it is not even as drying as some more expensive lipsticks I own. It’s small enough to tuck into pockets for when out and about, and the sponge applicator is perfect for precision application (I don’t even use a mirror, whereas one is needed with lipstick and the more gloopy lip glosses). I love.
My rating
My score is an 8/10. 1 point lost for leaving my lips a little dry, and 1 point lost for being our of stock online and not easily found.
