Protection from the sun, naturally (and I don’t mean a hat)

every day sun protection

every day sun protection

I continue my quest to use less chemicals and nasties on my skin, and what feels like it has more chemicals than most every day products? Sun cream! Now, I am 100% behind protecting my skin from ageing rays, but wouldn’t it be nice to do it without slathering on extra lanolin or parabens or petrochemicals, which then ends up in our water system?

Enter sun cream from the organic beauty folk at Green People. Their Organic Scent Free Sun Lotion SPF 25 is a Beauty Bible award winner (what an accolade to have!). It’s suitable for sensitive skin, leaves no sticky residue and has helped with preventing any heat rash from developing. It is actually quite moisturising – easy to apply and feels smooth on skin. Plus it doesn’t leave me with white streaks like other sun creams. It offers medium protection so ideal for every day use in London on sunny days like today, when sun exposure won’t be too intense and skin remains covered loosely.

As it only offers 96% protection from UVB rays, I probably wouldn’t rely on this being my only sunscreen whilst on holiday, but for home it is ideal. It contains 82% organic ingredients including aloe vera, green tea and rosemary – all working together to moisturise, soothe and protect naturally. There are a myriad of other reasons to feel good about this sun cream – it is not tested on animals and with each purchase there is a donation made to the Marine Conservation Society.

I keep mine in the bathroom and layer it on top of my moisturiser after my shower. I think the damp helps it sink into skin better. Plus I can be sure I won’t get any marks on my clothes if applying after getting dressed. Another green beauty winner.
